Our Story

Sustainable San José 3D began in a downtown back yard. A few neighbors invited friends and colleagues involved in environmental issues to a Sustainability Summit. We agreed on the need for more environmental action in San José. After meeting in living rooms for several months, we decided to take action and began organizing community events designed to inform and inspire neighbors to take action on environmental issues.

What About the Name?

We wanted to capture the breadth of a Sustainable San José, while emphasizing our focus on neighborhood resilience. The “3D” refers to San Jose City Council’s District 3 while also signifying the three dimensions of sustainability: ecology, economy and equity, and other multidimensional, creative approaches that arise while identifying nuanced challenges and informed solutions.
